Hugo Samir Joins TC Indonesia U-20 In Qatar, Dreams Of Reaching The World Cup And Senior National Team

Hugo Samir has a high target with Indonesia U-20 (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA - Hugo Samir is one of the names trusted to be included in the Indonesia U-20 squad in the training camp (TC) agenda in Qatar at the end of December 2023.

That opportunity became a leap for the player to be able to appear in the 2025 Chile U-20 World Cup.

Believed to be involved in the TC which is preparation for the main agenda of the 2025 U-20 World Cup, Hugo Samir is determined to show a positive appearance for the development of his football career.

Without hesitation, the player from Surabaya revealed his targets and big dreams after being trusted to join the TC squad this time. Hugo even looked away at his hopes of becoming a regular player for the senior level national team.

"My personal target is to be able to join Indonesia U-20 and be able to participate until the World Cup (U-20 in Chile) later."

"Hopefully, in the future I can (contribute) in the national (senior) team," said Hugo Samir as quoted from PSSI's official website on Monday, December 25, 2023.

Previously, it was known that the TC held by Garuda Muda in Qatar was an initial preparation to face a series of solid agendas in 2024.

Indra Sjafri's team will start the struggle in the 2024 AFF U-19 Cup until the 2025 U-20 World Cup Qualification.

Seeing the tightness and severity of Garuda Muda's struggle next year, Hugo is determined to bring Indonesia U-20 to an encouraging result in every event.

"If it's a target, we are all on the same team as the coach (Indra Sjafri) of course we want to qualify for the World Cup (U-20 2025)."

"We want to go to (the) AFC (U-20 2025), then in the AFF U-19 Cup we want to win. Anyway, our targets here can be high level and can play in the World Cup (U-20 2025)," he said.

Despite his targets and big dreams, Hugo Samir, who is now playing as a loan at Borneo FC, admitted that he enjoyed the TC agenda in Qatar with his colleagues.

I enjoyed my first training. I'm happy to be able to practice again with my friends. Some are also new to me. This exercise is also good for me to restore my physical fitness," he said.

Hugo last defended Indonesia when he was trusted to enter Indonesia U-24 which competed in the 2022 Asian Games in 2023.

In this multi-event Asian sport, Hugo often occupies the bench. Even so, he recorded one goal at home to Kyrgyzstan which simply answered his contribution on the field.
