Novak Djokovic Sets A Record After Champion Of ATP Finals

JAKARTA Novak Djokovic came out as the 2023 ATP Finals champion. He now holds a record title in the tournament.

The Serbian tennis player locked the title after defeating Italy host Jannik Sinner, with 6-3 and 6-3 in Pala Alpitour, Turin, Italy, on Sunday, November 19, 2023 evening WIB.

This is Djokovic's seventh title from ATP Finals after he previously won the tournament in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2022.

This additional one title makes Djokovic now a tennis player with the most titles in the ATP Finals. He passed Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, who has retired.

"One of the best seasons I've had in my life. There's no doubt about it," Djokovic was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

Turin's success in making Djokovic this year really set a record. The record includes establishing itself as the world's number one male tennis player at the end of the year for the eighth time, which is a new record in this tournament.

In addition, this year he also surpassed Steffi Graf's record for the most weeks spent at the top of the singles. Djokovic took control of the position at 400 weeks.

Then, Djokovic also won three of the four Grand Slam singles this season. The three major titles made him overtake the number of men's singles titles of Rafael Nadal, totaling 22.

Djokovic's total 24 Grand Slam titles makes him now level with an all-time record belonging to Australian actress Margaret Court.

Of the three titles included the 10th title extending the record at the Australian Open. The 36-year-old has the potential to win the tournament back in January 2024.

Furthermore, his victory at the French Open in June 2023 made Djokovic the only male player to win a Grand Slam three times for each tournament totaling four in a season.

The next record is that he has made the most appearances in the Grand Slam final, which is 36 games. That number is two more than the previous record held by Chris Evert.

Finally, earlier this month Djokovic also lifted the seventh Paris Masters trophy. That makes him now have collected a Masters title of 40.
