TNI Commander Warns the Public not to be Provoked by Hoaxes on Social Media

JAKARTA - The TNI Commander, General TNI Agus Subiyanto, appealed to the public not to be provoked by hoaxes circulating on social media recently, especially ahead of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

The appeal was conveyed by the Commander after a meeting with the leadership of the DPR which discussed various strategic issues at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, August 10.

"I appeal to all people not to be easily provoked by the circulation of news on social media that cannot be verified as true which causes discomfort to the public," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

The commander asked the public not to easily believe in news that cannot be verified. The public is also asked to carry out activities as usual.

The TNI, continued General Agus, has and will continue to carry out security patrols throughout the region to maintain public safety. In this case, the TNI also coordinates with the police and other community elements.

"Moreover, we will celebrate the independence anniversary, let's celebrate the independence anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia and I am responsible for the safety of the community in all regions of Indonesia," he said.
