Spain Closes Euro 2024 Qualification With A 3-1 Win Over Georgia

JAKARTA - Spain completed their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a 3-1 win over Georgia. They have already qualified for next year's tournament in Germany before this match. But in that match, Spain still dominated through goals in the early minutes by Robin Le Normand.

The hosts took the lead just four minutes after Torres pulled a free kick into the box, to reach Le Normand who headed the ball into the back post.

Then they had another good chance when Dani Carvajal ran to the right to give a pass to Gavi in the middle, and the Barcelona midfielder forced a great save from Giorgi Mamardashvili who threw the ball from the top corner of the net.

Georgia staggered in the 10th minute when Giorgi Chakvetadze sent a fantastic pass to Kvaratskhelia, who held two defenders back to roll the ball past Unai Simon's twisted feet and into the net, which made it 1-1.

Spain continued to threaten the Georgia box and approached the goal in the 22nd minute when Mamardashvili was forced to make a brilliant save at his left post from Fabian Ruiz's in-swinging free-kick.

However, Spain was hit hard a few moments later when Gavi left the field with injury.

Spain's brilliant chance came back in the 32nd minute when Torres' low pass from the right found Alvaro Morata in box six yards and the Atletico Madrid forward fired a direct shot, but Mamardashvili refused with a good block.

Spain struck early in the second half when Rodri fired a straight shot into the net and they threatened again when Torres met the Manchester City midfielder, but Mamardashvili was able to thwart the powerful header.

Spain finally got an additional goal in the 55th minute when Jose Luis Gaya sent a chip pass to Torres in the middle of the box, with his header bouncing past Mamardashvili into the right corner, and he celebrated by lifting Gavi's shirt.

The good game along the left makes Gaya continue to threaten with another dangerous cross, unfortunately Morata's header went wide. Moments later Spain's lead was added when Lochoshvili headed Lamine Yamal's cross into his own net in the 72nd minute.

Georgia attacked and Kvaratskhelia had a shot blocked by the Spanish defense and the hosts had another chance when Oihan Sancet went wide over the crossbar.
