JAKARTA - Chelsea's long-standing manager, Emma Hayes, has been appointed head coach of the United States women's soccer national team. She was given the task of improving team performance after the country's most disappointing women's World Cup campaign.

This 47-year-old woman from London is one of the most successful professional coaches of all time. She brought Chelsea to 13 major trophies in her 11 seasons with the women's Super League member club.

The Hayes deal with the United States, which is rumored to last at least until 2027, will make her the world's highest-paid women's soccer coach, the US Soccer said in a statement on Tuesday.

"It is a great honor to be given the opportunity to coach the world's most extraordinary women's soccer team," Hayes said in a statement announcing his appointment. "I've dreamed of coaching the United States for a long time, so getting this opportunity is a dream come true."

Chelsea announced on November 4 that Hayes will be leaving his job at the end of the Women's Super League season in May to pursue new opportunities beyond WSL and club football.

Twila Kilgore will remain the United States interim coach before joining Hayes staff in full time as assistant coach.

Hayes replaced Vlatko Andonovski, who resigned days after America's surprise defeat to Sweden in the round of 16 of the 2023 Women's World Cup. The United States, which has a record four world titles, has never finished worse than third.

PARIS OLYMPICS

One of Hayes' first major tournaments to appear at next year's Paris Olympics, where the United States will try to win their 5th gold medal. Previously they only won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"I know there is work to be done to achieve our goal of winning consistently at the highest level. To achieve this, dedication, dedication and collaboration are needed," Hayes said.

Hayes had a short time to get acquainted with the national team squad before the Olympics as it hoped he would sit on the United States bench in four games before the Paris Olympics, with two games in June and two in July.

"Emma is a fantastic leader and world-class coach who sets high standards for himself and everyone around her," US President Soccer, Cindy Parlow Cone, said in a statement.

Hayes, who joined Chelsea in 2012, has won the WSL title six times and the FA Cup five times in his resounding term which has made Chelsea one of the best teams in Europe.

He also guided the team to double and achieve unprecedented domestic trebles.

Hayes, who has been named the WSL Season Manager six times, is a vocal supporter of women's football. She spoke honestly about health issues and challenges in combining life as a housewife and sport.

Chelsea's joint sporting directorsung Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: "Emma telah menjadi salah satu penggeru perubahan terbesar dalam sepak bola wanita. Kecapaiannya di Chelsea tidak diriding dan akan tercatat dalam sejarah klub selamanya."

The United States began rebuilding their team as soon as their World Cup defeat, with the departure of Andonovski, their general manager, and a number of influential players including Megan Rapinoe.
