Chris Smalling Injured Again, Jose Mourinho Plans To Update AS Roma Squad

JAKARTA - AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho can't wait for defender Chris Smalling to return. Mourino also wants to make updates to the squad in the absence of Smalling.

Smalling is a pillar of strength in Roma's back sector. He has become Mourinho's mainstay to secure this line.

It's just that Smalling has suffered injuries many times. Most recently, he injured his tendon while training before the match against Monza in the Italian Serie A.

This is the umpteenth time the former Manchester United defender has had to step aside again. Previously, Smalling had not played since September due to injury. Of course, this is a problem for Mourinho because he needs the contribution of this 33-year-old player.

This condition is what Mourinho is considering when looking for a replacement for Smalling. According to the plan, Roma will move in the player transfer window in January 2024.

Mourinho has proposed a name for Roma to buy, namely Eric Dier. The Tottenham Hotspur defender, who was once managed by a coach from Portugal, is about to be brought to Italy.

Dier is a target for the former Chelsea manager because he no longer has a place in Tottenham's first team. This also made Dier want to leave Tottenham immediately.

Coincidentally, Dier's contract will end in June 2024. If the club does not immediately sell this 29-year-old defender, Dier will be on a free transfer.

This means that Tottenham will not get a penny from Dier's departure. However, Tottenham clearly cannot set a high price for the sale of Dier.

If you fail to get Dier, Genoa defender Radu Dragusin will be an alternative along with Oumar Solet, who currently plays at RB Salzburg. Both prices are cheaper than Dier.
