JAKARTA The renovation of four stadiums that will be used to hold the FIFA U-17 2023 World Cup matches has been completed. The match venue is 100 percent ready for use.
Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said Indonesia was now ready to welcome the grand event.
"All stadium preparations for the U-17 World Cup have been completed. Everything is ready to be used," said Basuki in Jakarta, Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
The U-17 World Cup 2023 will start on November 10 to December 2 nearest. The opening of the competition will be held at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT).
The stadium will be the home of the U-17 Indonesian national team in the preliminary round of Group A. In the group stage, Garuda Troops will face Ecuador, Panama, and Morocco.
The other three stadiums that became the location for the U-17 World Cup match were the Jakarta International Stadium (Jakarta), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung), and Manahan Stadium (Solo).
PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir had previously confirmed that the GBT Stadium had achieved 100 percent eligibility to hold the U-17 World Cup.
The man who also serves as Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the U-17 World Cup thanked all parties who supported and worked optimally.
"I thank you for the support from the Mayor of Surabaya, the Minister of PUPR, the Central Government, the Menpora, and of course colleagues from the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) PLN and Telkom," he said.
Indonesia hosted this event after Peru was dropped by FIFA because it was not ready. A total of 23 countries will come to Indonesia to fight for the title.
