English Football And MU Condolences, Legend Sir Bobby Charlton Dies At The Age Of 86

JAKARTA - Manchester United and England are grieving. The legend Sir Boby Charlton turned a blind eye at the age of 86. Charlton or commonly called Sir Bobby fought against dementia for one week after celebrating his birthday.

England is shrouded in grief. Sir Bobby the hero of his final football left everything behind. Charlton was none other than one of the key players when England won the 1966 World Cup. And, this is the only trophy England can win in the most grand football tournament on earth.

Charlton is also MU's main pillar for decades. He achieved great success with the Red Devils, including winning the European Cup or what is now known as the Champions League in 1968. This became the first broad ear trophy that MU won.

After retiring, Charlton remained at MU. He became a highly respected figure at MU. Once the club wanted to fire Sir Alex Ferguson who failed to bring the team to reap achievements early in the year at Old Trafford. All supported the move, but only Charlton vetoed the decision and Ferguson stayed with MU.

The following year, Ferguson took MU to the trophy. And then, Ferguson legended and became the greatest manager MU ever had.

In a statement from the family over Charlton's death, "In deep sorrow, we report that Sir Bobby Charlton died peacefully on Saturday morning. He breathed his last surrounded by family."

"The family would like to thank those who have cared for him. And to all those who love and support him," said the statement from the family.

"For now, we hope for anyone to respect family privacy," he explained further.

MU also paid tribute to the legend. "Manchester United mourns the death of Sir Bobby Charlton, one of the biggest and most loved players in the history of our club."

"Sir Bobby is a hero to millions, not only in Manchester or England but in all the world where football is played," said a statement from MU.

"He is respected because of athletes who are very sporting and have integrity. As a footballer he also has quality. Sir Bobby will always be remembered," said a further statement.

"The club expresses sympathy to his wife, Lady Norma, children and grandchildren and all those who love him."

Charlton is indeed a legend of MU. He achieved a success 10 years after the Munich air disaster.

Charlton was born in Ashington on October 11, 1937. He appeared in the World Cup final with his brother, Jack Charlton, who died at the age of 85 in 2020.

In his long career, Sir Bobby played 106 for England and scored 49 goals. Charlton retired from the national team at the age of 32.

His last match at the 1970 World Cup was when England, with the status of defending champion, lost to Germany (West) 2-1 in the quarter-finals. Charlton himself played in three 1962 World Cups, 1966 and 1970.

"We express our deepest condolences for the death of Sir Bobby Charlton," wrote the official account of the England national team.

"Being an integral when he won the 1966 World Cup, Sir Bobby has played 106 and scored 49 goals for The Three Lions. A true legend. We will never forget Sir Bobby," he wrote.

At MU, Charlton made his debut in 1956. He played 758 times for MU and scored 249 goals. Charlton's record was finally broken by Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney.

During his time at Manchester United, he won the league three times and once the FA Cup. Charlton left Manchester United in 1973 by becoming manager of Preston North End.

But 11 years later, he returned to the club that raised him and became director of MU. In 1994, Charlton was awarded a royal title for dedication in football.

Charlton was diagnosed with dementia in November 2020. Charlton's health condition was conveyed to the public just two days after his colleague in the national team and MU, Nobby Scales, died of illness.

According to The Telegraph, Lady Norma, Charlton's wife, said that her husband died in a calm and peaceful state.
