JAKARTA - UEFA sanctioned the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) for pro-Serbia singing by supporters during the Euro 2024 qualifying match against Kosovo last week. This penalty was announced by the European football body on Wednesday, September 2o.

The match on September 12 in Bucharest was suspended for 50 minutes after some of the hosts sang the "Serbia Serbia" chants and waved a banner that read 'Kosovo is Serbia'.

Kosovo declared his independence from Serbia in 2008 and earned recognition from more than 100 countries, but did not include Romania.

UEFA fined 40.000 euros (IDR655.3 million) to FRF and ordered that the next Euro qualifying match from Romania, which will be held on October 15 against Andorra in Bucharest, be played without spectators.

UEFA also fined the Ukrainian Football Federation (UAF) a "racist behavior" by supporters during a Euro qualifying match against England on September 9 in WroClaw, Poland, where supporters displayed flags with far-right symbols.

UEFA also ordered the closure of some of the stadiums in Prague that will host Ukraine's home game against North Macedonia on October 14. UAFs were also barred from selling tickets to supporters for their away game against Malta on October 17.

Ukraine has not played at home since Russia launched an invasion of the country in February 2022, which Moscow calls a "special military operation."
