JAKARTA - The U-23 Indonesian national team qualified for the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup finals. The ticket was achieved after defeating Turkmenistan in the final qualifying match of Group K, Tuesday, September 12, at the Solo Manahan Stadium.

The U-23 national team won with a score of 2-0 thanks to goals from Ivar Jenner and Pratama Arhan. This result puts the Garuda Muda squad at the top of the standings with six points.

This is history for Indonesia, which first qualified for the U-23 Asian Cup finals. This was certainly welcomed by the Chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir.

"We passed the U-23 Asian Cup for the first time in history. This is proof that we can," said Erick, as quoted by Antara. Erick praised the attitude of the players who played calmly. According to Erick, the calm of the players is the key so that they can dominate the game.

Erick added that this victory is also a momentum for the national team to increase the level of play in international events. "After yesterday winning against Taiwan and now winning again against Turkmenistan, a tradition of victory like this that we must continue to maintain," said Erick.

Erick conveyed that this victory was also increasingly special because it was witnessed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana Jokowi. Erick also thanked the supporters and the public who never stopped supporting and praying for the national team. "Thank you, Mr. President and First Lady who have come to support the struggle of Garuda Muda," said Erick. With this result, the U-23 national team followed the success of the senior national team which first confirmed a place in the Asian Cup final round in Qatar.
