US Open 2023 Champion, Novak Djokovic Up To Margaret Court Record

JAKARTA Novak Djokovic came out as the champion of the US Open 2023 after defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final match, Monday, September 11, 2023 morning WIB.

The 36-year-old Serbian has won the 6-3 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 straight set to secure his 24th Grand Slam title in his career. This title also creates history.

"This definitely means a lot to me. I really realized my childhood dream of competing at the highest level in the sport, which has given me and my family so much of a difficult situation," said Djokovic, reported by BBC Sport.

At the US Open, this is Djokovic's fourth title. Previously he won titles there in 2011, 2015, and 2018, respectively.

"I never thought I would be here, but in the last few years I thought I had the opportunity to make history. Why not take it when that opportunity comes?" he said.

This year's US Open title saw Djokovic, who surpassed Rafael Nadal's record 22 Grand Slam titles earlier this year, equal Australian tennis legend Margaret Court's record.

The tennis player who will return to world number one has a chance to surpass the Court at the Australian Open in January next year. In that event he had won a record 10 titles earlier.

Djokovic won a total of three of the four Grand Slam titles in 2023. This achievement made him the first male player to make this achievement on four occasions.
