Japan Open 2023: Five Indonesian Representatives To Quarter Finals

JAKARTA Indonesia has five representatives who have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Japan Open 2023. The last ticket was obtained by the women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

Previously, he gave up on Gregoria at the Japan Open, Sung had lost in the 2015 mixed team junior championships and the 2023 Indonesia Masters in January.

"I met him at the Indonesia Masters earlier this year, even though I won, it wasn't a game I wanted, so I tried to play a strategy to follow his game pattern," said Gregoria after the match.

In the quarter-finals tomorrow, Gregoria will face the first seed from Japan, namely Akane Yamaguchi. This is clearly a tough test for the Indonesian representative.

On paper Gregoria and Akane have met 14 times. Of the number of meetings, Akane dominated with 11 wins and the remaining matches were won by Gregoria.

"Tomorrow against Akane Yamaguchi. This is certainly not easy at all, especially since Akane will play in front of the public himself, which supports him a lot. So, I want to make this motivation to show the maximum," said Gregoria.

Apart from Gregoria, the four other representatives who escaped were Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi, and Jonatan Christie.

Meanwhile, the three representatives who have to go home are Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, and Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
