Former World Champion Tony Bellew Intends To 'go Down The Mountain' And Appear In The Controversial Bridgerweight Boxing Class

JAKARTA - Former professional boxer Tony Bellew, who has won the WBC cruiserweight, is considering returning to the ring. Unmitigated, the Liverpool boxer said he was ready to return and would appear in a controversial class, a bridgerweight.

Bridgerweight is a new division in the heavyweight that was first introduced in November 2022. To be able to appear in this division, boxers must weigh 90-101 kilograms.

However, this class became controversial because it was not recognized by a boxing body other than the WBC.

Bellew has decided to retire and start another career as a commentator in 2018 and had refused to fight again. However, quoted from Boxing Social, the appearance of the bridgerweight class made Bellew once again obsessed with winning the world title.

"Tony Bellew is eyeing the Bridgerweight world championship belt," Boxing Social wrote, quoted Friday, June 23.

Oscar Rivas won the controversial first-class belt in October 2021. But then he had to let go of injury and retirement. In April 2023, the championship belt was won by Lukasz Rozanski of Poland after destroying Alen Babic in an epic one-round battle.

The victory will be the 14th time for Rozanski from 15 fights he has fought. That note then made Bellew interested in giving him his first defeat.

The intention to be able to fight Rozanski in the ring in the controversial class was revealed by Bellew in a recent tweet on Twitter.

"I think you need a fight that goes through 4 rounds of @RozanskiBoxi. I'm bored and haven't seen anything to suggest you can do it to me! How do you think?" the legend tweeted as quoted from the same source.

But until now Bellew's expression about returning to the ring and the intention to challenge Rozanski is still unclear. The opponent still doesn't seem to provide an answer to Bellew's challenge.
