Inter Miami Followers On Instagram Up 5 Times After Lionel Messi Joins

JAKARTA Inter Miami's Instagram followers increased sharply in a matter of hours after Lionel Messi confirmed he would join them.

Messi was previously linked with his return to Barcelona and a move to Saudi Arabia before he confirmed his move to Inter Miami in his interview with Sport.

"I have taken the decision that I will go to Miami. (I decided) to leave Europe," Messi said as quoted by the BBC.

The announcement of the move made by the owner of the seven Ballon d'Or immediately gave an effect on Inter Miami social media. Their followers, especially on Instagram, immediately rose sharply.

Before Messi's interview appeared, David Beckham's Instagram followers only numbered 900 thousand accounts. However, on Thursday, June 8 afternoon, their followers had risen to 4.7 million.

This effect is inversely proportional to what happened to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). After Messi confirmed himself leaving, the Paris giant actually lost more than two million of their followers on Instagram.

The Argentine national team star moved to the United States as a free agent after choosing not to sign a new contract with Les Parisiens.

Before confirming joining Inter Miami, the player nicknamed La Pulga was also linked with a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal.
