Monaco Circuit In Statistics: The Cage Is Charles Leclerc, But Not Friendly To The Ferrari Champion

JAKARTA - The 2023 Formula 1 race will resume at the Monaco Circuit, this weekend. This will be the home race for Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

In fact, the F1 race continued in Imola, Italy. However, the series was canceled due to floods and landslides in the Emilia Romagna area, where the racing circuit was located.

The Monaco highway circuit has a length of 3.37 kilometers. This will host the seventh series on this season's calendar.

Monaco is the shortest track on the calendar, but with the most laps.

Turn six in the form of 180 degrees hairpin is a late bend this year and the rider's car is traveling at only 45kph.

Small mistakes from racers can cause a safety car with a great chance of being taken down in a race at Monaco considering the character of the highway circuit which directly borders the guardrail.

This weekend will witness the 69th Monaco Grand Prix in the F1 world championship calendar. Since its debut in 1950, Monaco again held a race in 1955 and was only absent for one year, namely in 2020 when the race was canceled due to the pandemic.

Ayrton Senna is still the most successful driver at Monaco with six wins. The legendary Brazilian first won when riding Lotus in 1987 followed by five next wins in a row as McLaren's 1989-1993 racer, according to FIA records.

The four riders on the grid this season who have won at Monaco are Fernando Alonso (2006/Renault, 2007/McLaren), Lewis Hamilton (2008/McLaren, 2016 and 2019/Mercedes), Max Verstappen (2021/Red Bull), and Sergio Perez (2022/Red Bull).

Leclerc this weekend has a chance to make a hat-trick pole position in his hometown.

The Ferrari rider appeared fastest in the 2021 and 2022 qualifying sessions, although in those two races he failed to convert the leading starting position into supremacy in front of the hosts.

The accident at the end of the 2021 qualification prevented Leclerc from starting the race, then last year he only finished fourth.

Leclerc is one of the riders on the grid this season who has secured pole at Monaco in addition to Alonso (2006, 2007) and Hamilton (2015, 2019).

After five races, Red Bull's Max Verstappen leads the drivers' standings with 119 points, 14 points ahead of team-mate Sergio Perez. While third place is Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin's team with a collection of 75 points.

Red Bull is comfortable at the top of the constructors' standings with 224 points, while closest rival Aston Martin collects 102 points. In third place, Mercedes collects 96 points.
