Boxing Donates Two Silvers For Indonesia At The 2023 SEA Games Cambodia

JAKARTA - Two Indonesian boxers Asri Udin and Maikhel Robberd Muskita donated two silver medals for the Indonesian contingent at the 2023 SEA Games in the final match at the Choy Changvar International Convention Center, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Saturday (13/5).

Asri Udin won the Cambodian 2023 SEA Games silver medal in the men's 57 kg number. Despite showing his abilities, he still has to admit the advantage of his opponent, Ian Clark Pedres from the Philippines.

Furthermore, in the second final, the match between Maikhel Robberd Muskita in the men's 86 kg, where he fought Thai boxer, Jakkapong Yomkhot. The 2001-born boxer was ranked second after losing with a narrow score.

"Yes, I am disappointed to fail to defend the gold medal at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games," said Maikhel in a written statement at Phnom Penh, which was received by Antara on Sunday.

According to Maikhel, his failure was due to a lack of sparring partners in preparation for the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia. "I don't have a sparring partner," he said.

On the other hand, the General Chair of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) Raja Sapta Oktohari praised Maikhel's performance.

"Maikhel's posture and height are ideal. Likewise, his movements are quite agile. I'm also struggling in boxing and can see the potential of Maikhel to be able to excel in international events," said Okto.

Okto specifically asked the General Chairperson of PB Pertina, Komaruddin Simanjuntak to facilitate Maikhel to increase his partner's sparring abroad.

"Maikhel must be sent abroad to get a commensurate sparring partner because we must have difficulty getting it domestically. In the future, he will be even more mature," added Okto.
