Bentrok Supporters During PSIS Vs Persis, Erick Thohir Asks All Parties To Learn From The Malang Ferry Tragedy

JAKARTA The general chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir, immediately reacted to the news of the chaos between supporters and the police that occurred during the PSIS Semarang match against Persis Solo. He immediately coordinated with the apparatus, the organizing committee, and the management of the two clubs after the match which took place at the Jatidiri Stadium, Semarang, Central Java, on Friday, February 17, 2023.

"I have communicated with the apparatus, committee, and management of the two teams. I ask all parties to be calm," Erick said in Jakarta as reported by the federation website.

The riot occurred outside the stadium due to several PSIS supporters forcing their way into the stadium. This situation forced security forces the security forces to shoot tear gas.

The match, titled the Central Java derby, should have been held without spectators based on a joint decision with the organizing committee. However, a number of the home fans wanted to see their favorite team compete in the stadium.

Erick said he understood the desire of a number of supporters who urged his entry to the stadium. Therefore, he will soon find a solution so that other matches in the future can be enjoyed safely.

"Semarang and Solo supporters are odd. That's why in the future there needs to be an evaluation related to the risk category in each match," said Erick.

Erick also asked the security forces to act persuasively and learn from the experience of the Kanjuruhan tragedy. Erick believes that the security forces are also able to do their best in calming the masses without repressive measures, especially by using tear gas.

"I ask the supporters and the apparatus to be calm and think clearly together, our intentions are the same for safe and comfortable football for all," said Erick.

Erick has just held the post of chairman after winning at an extraordinary congress that took place last Thursday. The former Inter Milan president has garnered 64 votes to beat the Chairman of the DPD RI LaNyalla Mattalitti who only secured 22 votes.

In carrying out his duties, Erick was assisted by representatives Zainudin Amali and Ratu Thish Destria as well as 12 members. The ranks of this committee will serve from 2023 to 2027.
