Want To Test Clean-Clean Football, Minister Of State-Owned Enterprises: It's Been A Long Time

JAKARTA - The name of the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, appears on the temporary list of candidates for PSSI general chairman for the 2023-2027 period. He will compete with four other figures.

The man who once served as President of Inter Milan advanced by carrying out a mission to test his guts. He wants to clean football through PSSI.

He said national football had been dirty for too long.

"I have repeatedly needed guts, to come back, clean up. We have to create clean and accomplished football," said Erick on the sidelines of the Mandiri Investment Forum 2023 in Jakarta, as quoted from Antara, Wednesday, February 1.

This mission is in line with what he carried out when President Joko Widodo was appointed as Minister of BUMN. There, he also started cleaning up several state-owned companies.

Erick also confirmed that he would do the same if he was trusted by PSSI's voters in the Extraordinary Congress (KLB) on February 16.

However, the former chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee reminded that what he was doing was just an effort. In the end, the owners of valid votes will decide.

"If it turns out that the voters are not confident with me, what about it, the name is also a business. Efforts to improve Indonesian football have been dirty for too long," he said.

Apart from Erick, four other PSSI general chairman candidates passed the administrative stage. They are AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, Arief Putra Wicaksono, Doni Setiabudi, and Fary Djmie Francis.
