JAKARTA - Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali officially launched the mascot, logo and tagline of the 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) specifically for the North Sumatra region in Astaka Field, Medan, Sunday 29 January 2023. During the launch event, the Minister of Youth and Sports was accompanied by the Chairman of the Central KONI Marciano Norman, Governor of North Sumatra Edy Rahmayadi, Kadispora North Sumatra Baharuddin Siagian, Member of the House of Representatives Sofyan Tam and Dzohar Arifin. "Yesterday we launched in Aceh and today in North Sumatra. The PON will be planned to be opened by the president. The opening in Aceh 8 September 2024 and closing in North Sumatra 20 September 2024," said Menpora Zainudin Amali after the launch of the mascot, logo and tagline PON 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra. He said, PON was held in two provinces, namely in North Sumatra and Aceh. Likewise, the next PON will be given the opportunity to two provinces to hold it. This is in order to give other provinces a chance to get their turn to host PON. Moreover, now the provinces in Indonesia have increased by four to 38. "Can you imagine if they rotate once every four years. If not now, maybe 100 years later North Sumatra could have the opportunity to host PON," he said. For that, he continued, North Sumatra must welcome the trust as the host of PON this time together with Aceh so that the biggest sporting event in the country runs successfully. This is our first experience holding PON in two regions. This is not easy, then coordination between North Suma and Aceh must be more intensive, as well as coordination with the Central KONI. The government of its position facilitates in accordance with existing regulations," he said.

Meanwhile, the Governor of North Sumatra, Eddy Rahmayadi, on that occasion also said that all parties must work hard so that the upcoming PON can run well, apart from the success of the host, as well as the success of the achievement. "We must be able to be the best example of the host as I have reported to the previous Menpora. We still expect directions and input from all parties, both to the central KONI and others so that later this PON will become the best PON. Let's all move," he said.
