WBC President On Tyson Fury Vs Usyk Fight Plan: Could Be Done In The Near Future

JAKARTA - WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman welcomed the planned unification battle between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. In fact, he believes this fight could happen before the end of the year.

"My personal opinion, boxing is going through a great stage, a great moment. It would be great to see Fury against Usyk in the unification of the division title. It is August now, there is still time to finalize and close this year, or early next year." Solomon told Sky Sports.

Usyk put on a near-perfect performance when he recorded a split-decision win over Anthony Joshua in Jeddah on Saturday, 21 August. He retains the WBA, IBF, and WBO belts he took from the British boxer in London last year.

After maintaining his unbeaten professional record of 20 wins, Usyk declared his intention to fight Fury.

"I'm sure Tyson Fury hasn't retired. I'm sure he wants to fight me. I want to fight him. If I don't fight Tyson Fury, I won't fight at all," Usyk said in one occasion.

Sulaiman admitted, happy with this prospect. However, everything was again handed over to Fury, who recently declared his retirement again.

He said he would respect Fury's decision. "He is very loyal to the WBC, he is very representative and proud of the WBC. I just hope he makes the right decision, whatever it is," said Sulaiman.

"If he decides to hang up his boots and retire, a great way to do that is with money, with health, with his beautiful family."

"But if he has the hunger to get into the ring, which I believe he does, it would be great to see him represent the WBC in a fight with Usyk or any other fight he could have in the near future."
