MotoGP 2022 Rolls Again, Check Out Statistics Ahead Of The Race At The British Silverstone Circuit

JAKARTA - MotoGP 2022 enters the second half. The riders will return to asphalt after a gap of about a month.

Fabio Quartararo and other MotoGP riders will compete at the Silverstone Circuit, England, this weekend. This is the 12th grand prix race held in Queen Elizabeth's Country since MotoGP was held there again in 2010.

The first Grand Prix held at Silverstone took place in 1977. It was also the first motorcycle race to be held on the British mainland.

Prior to 1977, the world championship series in England took place on a 60.72km track at the Isle of Man TT Circuit since 1949. The race was later moved from the Isle of Man for safety reasons.

The circuit's original layout, 4.71km long, was used to race from 1977 to 1986 and the fastest lap there was made by Kenny Roberts who raced for Yamaha in 1983 with an average speed of 192.2 kilometers per hour.

MotoGP statistics record that the British Grand Prix was held in succession for 10 years at the Silverstone Circuit, before the event was moved to Donington Park in 1987. The British GP returned to Silverstone in 2010 using a track layout that has been changed to 5.9km.

However, the races were not held there in 2018 due to track conditions and in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Jorge Lorenzo became the most successful rider at Silverstone in the MotoGP era with three wins in 2010, 2012, and 2013.

Yamaha's victory in the premier class at Silverstone was brought to you by Fabio Quartararo (2021). Yamaha is the most successful manufacturer at Silverstone with eight wins, including five in the MotoGP class: Jorge Lorenzo (2010, 2012, 2013), Valentino Rossi (2015), and Fabio Quartararo (2021).

Meanwhile, Alex Rins presented a win for Suzuki in 2019. Suzuki recorded six premier class wins at Silverstone.

In 2016, Maverick Vinales delivered Suzuki's first MotoGP win since Chris Vermuelen won the 2007 French GP wet race. It was Suzuki's first podium in the MotoGP era and the manufacturer's first win at Silverstone since Franco Uncini won the 500cc race at the 1982 British GP.

While Honda felt the top podium of Silverstone through Marc Marquez's victory in 2014 from pole position.

Honda has five premier class wins at that track including two in the MotoGP class since 2010 with Casey Stoner (2011) and Marquez (2014). Last year, Pol Espargaro became Honda's fastest rider in the P5 after presenting his first pole for Honda.

Ducati bagged one premier class win at Silverstone through Andrea Dovizioso in 2017. Other podium finishes that Ducati achieved at Silverstone were P2 Danilo Petrucci and P3 Dovizioso in 2015.

In 2021, Aleix Espargaro finished P3 in England, which was Aprilia's first podium since the MotoGP era in 2002 and the Italian manufacturer's first in the premier class since Jeremy McWilliams took the podium at Doningtong Park in 2000.

Quartararo heads to Silverstone as the leader of the standings with a 21-point advantage over his closest rival, Aleix Espargaro.

When Quartararo crashed at Assen, Espargaro was the only rider to always score points in 11 MotoGP races this season.
