Romelu Lukaku's Confession After Returning To Inter MIlan: Joining Chelsea Was A Mistake

JAKARTA - Romelu Lukaku admits his decision to leave Inter Milan for Chelsea last summer was a mistake.

The 29-year-old striker entered as one of the big transfers for the Blues last season. He successfully broke the club transfer record when he came from Inter with a dowry of 97.5 million pounds.

However, just 12 months later he returned to Italy and joined the Nerazzurri. He came to the Giuseppe Meazza on loan.

"I left. It was a mistake. Now I am happy to wear this jersey," said Lukaku as quoted by The Sun, Monday.

Despite coming as one of Chelsea's big transfers, the reality is that Lukaku has failed miserably at Stamford Bridge. He apparently did not fit in Thomas Tuchel's squad.

It was because of this mismatch that the Blues decided to loan the Belgian striker back to Inter even though they lost big. The London team's decision made Lukaku even happier.

"I realized last season when I was in England, how important Inter are in the world. The profile of the club is rising on an international scale," he said.

"Milan is a beautiful city and that's why I kept the old apartment when I went to London, because my mother came here all the time and I wanted to come back too."

Although only as a loan player, the possibility of Lukaku to return to Chelsea is very small. Tuchel himself has not dared to confirm whether Lukaku will return or not.

"Given the fact that he is only on loan, of course there is a possibility [he could return]," Tuchel said.

"I don't know if it's very likely, but it's not up to me to give a view on it. There's a chance for that."
