JAKARTA – The Indonesian team contingent will showcase the diversity of the archipelago's culture during theparade at the opening of the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi. A total of 29 athletes will perform with the theme of the sporty casual millennial.

The opening ceremony of this biennial event in Southeast Asia will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 19.00 p.m. GMT+7 (Indonesian Time). The Indonesian team will be led by Chef de Mission (CdM) Ferry Kono.

"To show that the Indonesian team is dominated by junior athletes, so there is no need to wear costumes that are too heavy and the shoes used show that we are proud of Indonesian-made products," said Ferry in an official statement.

All Indonesian athletes who take part in the parade parade will wear a white polo shirt wrapped in a red cardigan combined with cream colored pants. In addition, they also wear headbands from the provinces in Indonesia, Fine Counsel's local shoes, belonging to Greysia Polii.

Ferry hopes that the costumes used can show the simplicity of the Indonesian people in socializing with ASEAN countries. In addition, it is also to promote that Indonesia has cultural diversity.

"On the other hand, we still want to display the richness of Indonesian culture, so we chose a headband. Not only one region, but all provinces in Indonesia to represent the cultural diversity of the archipelago," said Ferry.

The Indonesian team that will take part in the parade parade will number 29 people. Chef de Mission led the group with flag bearer Emilia Nova, followed by 23 athletes from four sports namely athletics, swimming, jujitsu and esports and accompanied by five headquarter representatives.

The selection of athletes who take part in the parade parade is adjusted to the schedule of athletes who have just competed on May 14.

Ferry as the head of the contingent will wear the Takowa Kiki, which is the King of Gorontalo's shirt that is usually used when he goes down the field to observe the condition of his people. Gold chain ornaments on the left and right of the pants symbolizing a king must be neutral.

While the gold chain means a leader needs to have patience. The clothes that will be worn by the Indonesian CdM Contingent for the SEA Games are very colorful, yellow, green, purple, and dominated by red. This color symbolizes the ancient Gorontalo traditional kingdom and reflects enthusiasm, confidence and firmness.

"I'm from Gorontalo and this dress was designed by a local designer there. This is a form that there is a lot of extraordinary potential in all corners of Indonesia," added Ferry.

This is the 31st SEA Games and the second time Vietnam has appeared as the host of the prestigious biennial multi-event in the Southeast Asia region. The last time, Vietnam hosted in 2003.

At the opening later, Vietnam plans to use a number of technologies such as mapping, AR (augmented reality), and EX (extended reality). In addition, there are also graphic images of 40 sports symbols depicted through Dong Ho's work or traditional Vietnamese crafts.
