Shesar Stopped In First Round Of German Open

JAKARTA - On the first day of the German Open 2022, Tuesday, the Indonesian badminton national team lost one representative from the men's singles number. Shesar Hiren Rhustavito failed to follow Anthony Sinisuka Ginting's steps to the round of 16.

In the first round, Shesar was stopped by Hong Kong badminton player Lee Cheuk Yiu after struggling in the rubber game 16-21, 21-14, 18-21 for 58 minutes.

The world number 23 badminton player tried to overcome the pressure from Lee throughout the three games. In the first game, Shesar had repeatedly gained an advantage over his opponent in the first half.

But he fell behind when the game entered the second half with a score of 11-15. The athlete who was born in Sukoharjo tried to catch up, but could not close the difference in points until it ended with 16-21.

In the second game, Lee had to put tight pressure on Shesar to end the match in two straight games. However, the Indonesian representative turned out to be giving tough resistance, so the 17th-ranked badminton player allowed the score to be even and forced the decisive game to be played.

Tight competition also occurred in the third game. Shesar was even 11-9 up, but again Shesar had to be overtaken as Lee surprisingly scored six points in a row and made it 11-15.

After that point, Shesar could not turn things around and was forced to give up 18-21. Through this victory, Lee recorded a score of 3-0 over Shesar in their meeting record.

Previously, Ginting first confirmed his step to the second round after defeating the badminton player from Spain, Pablo Abian with a score of 21-14, 23-21.

Even though he won two straight games, the fifth-ranked athlete in the world had problems in the second game. Pablo, who played more leniently in the first game, provided a counter-resistance in the second game.

Ginting was also left 5-9 behind and is predicted to play the third game if he sees the tough resistance of the 55th ranked badminton player.

As many as five consecutive points can be pocketed by Ginting to turn things around. However, the pursuit of the score strictly occurs until the points game.

Pablo replied by scoring three consecutive points and leading 20-21 over Ginting. Luckily Ginting was able to play more patiently and packed a 23-21 victory over Pablo after struggling for 58 minutes.

Next in the second round, Ginting will meet Lakshya Sen from India. Another Indonesian representative, Jonatan Christie, will play the first match against Li Shi Feng from China, Wednesday.
