JAKARTA – The Indonesian badminton team was showered with billions of rupiah in bonus savings thanks to their achievements at the 2022 Asian Team Badminton Championships, last February.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and friends received a bonus worth Rp. 3,370 billion on Tuesday, March 1, in the form of savings. The bonus was given directly to the President Director of BNI, Royke Tumilaar

“This appreciation will be an encouragement for us to keep practicing and competing. We will save this appreciation,” said Gregoria.

In the championship which became the qualifier for the Thomas and Uber Cups, the Indonesian contingent brought home the title from the women's team. Gregoria and team beat South Korea in the final to claim the first trophy in the history of the competition.

Meanwhile, the men's team went home with the title of runner-up. They failed to defend their title after being beaten by the host, Malaysia, with a score of 0-3.

Chairman of PP PBSI, Agung Firman Sampurna, said that the success of the Indonesian women's team in the 2022 Asian Team Championships was very special. Moreover, in that competition, the majority of the players who participated were debutants in the team championship.

“Meanwhile, the men's team that became the finalists is also a proud result. For PBSI, the success this time felt very proud. Understandably, all the players who defend the Indonesian badminton team at BATC are back-up players," said Agung.

In addition to giving appreciation to the BATC team, on this occasion an event was also held for the release of the Indonesian badminton team that will fight for the All England 2022.

A total of 22 players will be dispatched to the Super 1000 level tournament. This most prestigious competition will take place in Birmingham, England, 16-20 March 2022.
