JAKARTA – Indonesian women's doubles badminton player Greysia Polii has been elected as Chair of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Athletes Commission for the 2022-2025 period.

The announcement was made by BWF through its official website on Thursday, 17 February. Greysia was accompanied by Dutch badminton player Robin Tabeling who was elected as Deputy Chair by members of the Commission.

Greysia, who won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with Apriyani Rahayu, said that with this position she wanted to bring new passion, energy, and experience.

"I want to help my colleagues, badminton players to achieve their dreams and help their requests when competing on the international circuit," said Greysia on the BWF website quoted by Antara.

The 34-year-old player previously had to go through several stages of selection carried out by the BWF Vetting Panel as required for all board members.

Other active players, namely Iris Wang (United States), Kim So Yeong (South Korea), Pusarla V. Sindhu (India), and Zheng Si Wei (China) are also members of the new BWF Athlete Commission.

The Chair of the Athletes Committee is a voting member at the level of the BWF Board, who is responsible for advising the Committee and the BWF Board on athlete-related matters.

The Athlete Commission aims to represent the needs, voices, and views of the athletes and then present them to the BWF Board and Committee.

The Athletes Commission also acts as the official liaison between athletes and BWF, and ensures athlete opinions are heard at the highest levels of the federation.
