AS Roma Wins Over Spezia, Mourinho: I Like The Result But Not The Game

JAKARTA - AS Roma coach, Jose Mourinho commented on his team's performance after a successful 2-0 win over Spezia in the 17th week of the 2021 Italian League. Despite winning, Mourinho seems still not satisfied.

The Portuguese coach was openly pleased with the final result made by AS Roma, but he did not like the way his team played.

"I like the two goals from corners, because yesterday we trained with set pieces for 25 minutes," Mourinho said.

"I like the result, but not the game, it wasn't a difficult game," the coach added.

In the meeting against Spezia at AS Roma's headquarters, the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday morning Indonesian Western Time (WIB), the hosts took the lead when the game was just running early enough.

AS Roma opened the scoring 1-0 when the game had only been running for six minutes through the execution of Chris Smalling. That one point remained without reply until halftime in the first half.

In the second half, AS Roma again pressed the visitors' defense. In the 56th minute the hosts again doubled their advantage through the execution of Roger Ibanez.

When it comes to results, AS Roma has indeed managed to record a two-goal victory without reply. But Mourinho said in this match the team's game was less convincing. Against Spezia, Mourinho actually wanted the team to have more control of the ball.

"From the first half we lost too many balls," he said.

"We also never completely had a good flow of the ball, I felt the game was not good," he added.

Despite Mourinho's dissatisfaction with his team's performance this time, Roma's three points over Spezia allow them to continue to keep their chances of fighting for a place in the Champions League next season.

On the other hand, this victory should be grateful for Mourinho. The reason is, this could be a breaker of the deadlock after AS Roma lost in two successive parties against Bologna and Inter Milan.

After rising in the match against Spezia, AS Roma are scheduled to face Atalanta in the 18th week of the Italian League at the Bergamo Stadium, Saturday, December 18.
