JAKARTA - A young Indonesian racer who will compete in the full Moto3 event in the 2022 racing season, Mario Suryo Aji, admits that he can't wait to try out the Mandalika Circuit in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

"As an Indonesian, of course, I really want to. Hopefully later when competing there I can achieve maximum results," he said when hosted by East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa at the Grahadi State Building in Surabaya, Wednesday night.

Mario, who is a driver fostered by PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM), will join the Honda Team Asia (HTA) team which will compete in the 250cc capacity of the Moto3 class in the 2022 season.

The racer from Magetan, East Java is targeting to achieve the best results and bring the name of the Indonesian nation to the fore in the international racing world.

The 17-year-old said that competing in the Grand Prix was his dream and committed not to waste this valuable opportunity.

"I am very happy and excited to face next season. Moreover, this is a dream for me and my late father," said the rider who idolizes Marc Marquez.

On that occasion, Mario had cried after remembering the role of his father who was very supportive of his struggle during his foray into the world of motorcycle racing.

"Sorry, I remember my father. I am very grateful to everyone, to the family, especially my father," he said softly while wiping tears.

The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, who was sitting next to him, then calmed and motivated him that the struggle that had been pursued so far had to continue.

"Your father must be proud, son. Continue to achieve your dream to be the best in the world of motorcycle racing. Bring the good name of the team, the name of the nation, the name of East Java, and the name of Magetan as the homeland," said Khofifah.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Magetan Suprawoto who accompanied Mario to meet the Governor of East Java said he was proud because there were local sons who were able to compete on the world stage.

"Mario Suryo Aji is an icon and pride of Magetan. He is a young achiever and I and the people of Magetan always support and pray that Mario will be given ease and success in competing in the Moto3 GP," he said.
