JAKARTA - The transition of automotive technology towards electrification is increasingly advancing in Indonesia. Mitsubishi Motors ensures concrete steps by preparing the launch of a hybrid car (HEV) this year as part of a multi-pathway strategy for vehicle development that is tailored to the needs of the domestic market.

PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) confirmed the plan at the 2026 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta. The presence of hybrid models is a strong signal for the expansion of Mitsubishi's electrification portfolio in the midst of the dominance of internal combustion engine vehicles (ICE) which are still in demand by Indonesian consumers.

President Director of PT MMKSI Atsushi Kurita said that globally Mitsubishi has developed electric vehicles in a number of countries and has received a positive response. However, he assessed that the Indonesian market is currently still dominated by conventional-engined vehicles due to high demand.

"Globally, Mitsubishi has developed EVs in Japan, Europe and Thailand. We are playing in a multi-pathway solution. Each country is tailored to the needs," said Atsushi Kurita at a press conference at IIMS 2026, Monday, February 9.

"In Indonesia, we are still focusing on ICE because the demand is still high. We have a strong car," he continued.

However, Mitsubishi ensured that it would still present an electrification model to answer the changing trends in the automotive industry. Regarding the launch time, Mitsubishi signaled that it would be carried out in the near future.

"We are planning to introduce hybrid cars for the Indonesian market. However, it will still play in multi-pathways, so it will still sell ICE cars. For the time being in the second semester, we will launch a hybrid model," he said.

The signal of the presence of Mitsubishi hybrid vehicles in Indonesia has also strengthened in various exposures of the company's strategies, which confirm that environmentally friendly models will be adapted to the needs of domestic consumers. Currently, there are two Mitsubishi hybrid car models that have been marketed in Thailand, namely Xpander HEV and Xforce HEV.

On the other hand, Mitsubishi emphasized that the development of vehicle digital technology continues to be carried out gradually. According to Atsushi Kurita, the adjustment of digital technology has begun to be applied to Mitsubishi models to improve the user experience.
