The Best-selling Segment Becomes A Reference, National Car Prices Are Projected Below Rp300 Million

JAKARTA The government's plan to present a homemade national car continues to be carefully prepared. The leak, the car will be sold to communities below Rp. 300 million, this segment is indeed the largest market in the Indonesian automotive industry.

Currently, cars below Rp. 300 million do dominate the market. Starting from LCGC, which is under Rp. 200 million, to Low MPV such as Toyota Avanza, all of whose variants are still in the range of Rp. 200300 million.

Even the new electric vehicle manufacturer entered this area. BYD offered Atto 1 at the highest price of IDR 235 million, while Jaecool put his new electric SUV at the highest figure of IDR 299.9 million.

These prices are the government's reference in encouraging the birth of a national car. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that this segment will be the main benchmark.

"So in the future we will push for a national car, we have checked in the field from Gaikindo, now it is the largest market, the largest share is cars under Rp. 300 million, so this is also what the government encourages so that affordability becomes a challenge," said Airlangga, quoted from Kadin Indonesia's Youtube broadcast, Thursday, December 4.

Airlangga also said that President Prabowo Subianto had given directions to prepare a special budget for the development of the national car. On the other hand, the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, had given a code for his national car candidate.

Agus said that the car had been exhibited at the GIIAS 2025 event. Although, in the end President Prabowo has also appointed PT Pindad to produce a national car starting in 2027.

"I've seen, at that time it was shown at GIIAS, GIIAS the last one yesterday. It has been shown to be a candidate for Mobnas. That was what was conveyed by the President yesterday in a cabinet plenary meeting which had actually been shown to the public in GIIAS yesterday," Agus said at the time.

If you look at Agus' statement, then the car leads to the Indiginous Indonesia Car, or i2C Project. The I2C Project electric SUV poured Indonesian elements into its car, such as the moment of independence in 1945, to the garuda bird.

The concept's electric SUV has a length dimension of 4,910 millimeters, a width of 1,848 mm, a height of 1,690 mm, and a distance of the front wheel axis to the back of 2,965 mm. While the powertrain relies on an NMC battery with a capacity of 83.4 kWh which is claimed to be able to run 617 kilometers based on CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) testing.
