Despite The Merger's Failure, Nissan Will Present The Latest GT-R Sharing Platform With The Latest Generation Of NSX Acura

JAKARTA - Nissan certainly failed to merge with Honda earlier this year. One of the causes of the cessation of the conversation was that Honda wanted Nissan to become one of her subsidiaries.

However, the two companies already have plans to build cars in various segments, one of which is sports cars as well as indicating the presence of the latest generation of GT-R which can be developed with Honda.

Nissan North America's Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer, Ponz Pandikuthira said the discussion was still ongoing and executives also explained an overview of the latest GT-R being developed with Honda based from Acura NSX with a similar platform.

"Can you develop two such cars by sharing the same platform? I think we can," Pandikuthira said as quoted by The Drive, Thursday, April 24.

However, the development will not be easy. Pandikuthira explained that these two models have different characteristics so that sharing a platform will be a challenge for the development of the latest GT-R.

"NSX is very precise, light, and has extraordinary performance, while GT-R is a brutal, but sophisticated car," he added.

Pandikuthira also emphasized that he is optimistic that these two differences will produce a mainstay supercar that can be developed from joint technology.

"We will need a partnership to deliver vehicles. I think partnerships will be an important part of Nissan's future," he explained.

Of course, this news is still a puzzle that deserves to be followed. Because, Honda has confirmed that NSX will become a fully high performance EV after its fuel version stopped being produced in 2022.

Meanwhile, the latest news from Nissan GT-R said that this car will be based on the Hyper Force concept introduced at the end of 2023. The car is claimed to have up to 1,341 hp of power by combining four-wheel drive or twice that of GT-R R35 Nismo.
