JAKARTA - Bad news came from a luxury manufacturer from Italy, Maserati. The brand under Stellantis reportedly canceled the launch of MC20 Folgore.
Autocar reported on Friday, March 7, a spokesman from the brand said the decision had to be taken because the demand for electric supercars was insufficient.
The news comes after Stellantis removed an investment of about 1.5 billion euros for Maserati, which executives have partly blamed for slumping sales in the Chinese market.
Maserati's car sales last year decreased by more than half compared to before, which was to 11,300 units. As a result, this iconic brand lost up to 260 million euros after posting a profit of 141 million euros in 2023.
Maserati MC20 Folgore is one of six models to be introduced by the brand nicknamed 'Trident'. The supercar is claimed to have similar performances like its gasoline version with the V6 engine.

As a substitute for this model, the brand will update the current MC20 as a whole. It is likely that Maserati will adopt a similar approach such as MC20 GT2 Stradale which provides additional personnel of up to 10 hp.
Not only is the power added, this exotic-shaped supercar will experience a weight reduction of up to 60 kg with chassis settings focused on racing needs on the track.
This move shows that Maserati is reconsidering its plans to become a fully electric vehicle brand by stopping production of ICE-engined cars by 2030.
MC20 has been launched since 2020 as the successor to the legendary MC12 Maserati. This car has a design language that is no different from its predecessor.
The MC20 maserati are powered by a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine coupled to the transmission of eight dual-clutch accelerations, which are capable of providing a 621 hp explosive power.
