BMW Leaves Gasoline In 4 Series Gran Coupe To Fulfill Consumer Interests In Tax Friendly Vehicles

JAKARTA - BMW has announced the cessation of production of gasoline variants from Australia's 4 Gran Coupe Series. The move comes as consumers' growing interest in electric vehicles such as BMW i4, which offers lower tax gains.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe is a liftback version of the 4 Series Coupe and is a development of the 3 Series sedan. Now, the second generation of this model will only be available in the electric version.

After stopping production of the 420i variant by the end of 2023, BMW also ended production of variants 430i and M440i xDrive. This decision was taken based on BMW's market trend and commitment to meet consumer needs who seek more economic and environmentally friendly options.

Choices With Tax Profits

As a substitute, BMW still offers i4, an electric version of the 4 Series Gran Coupe. The eDrive 35 variant of i4 is even exempted from luxury car taxes and edge benefits taxes, making it a more attractive choice for consumers.

The move is also in line with sales of 4 gasoline-fuel Gran Coupe Series experiencing a significant decline. In the first nine months of 2024, only 224 units were sold, down 68.5 percent compared to the same period last year. In contrast, BMW i4 recorded a sales spike with 1592 units sold, a sharp increase of up to 842 percent. The eDrive 35 variant itself contributed 80 percent to total i4 sales, demonstrating its attractiveness in the market.

While there has been no official confirmation regarding the next generation of the 4 Series Gran Coupe, a European report as quoted from Drive, December 4, states that gasoline models will most likely not be continued. On the other hand, i4 is projected to be replaced by a Neue Classe platform-based model by 2028.

With this policy, BMW is increasingly demonstrating its commitment to delivering vehicles that are not only sophisticated but also in line with consumer needs seeking tax efficiency and switching to future mobility solutions.
