Hyundai Starts Developing Air Transportation Mobility In Indonesia

Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) started its steps in the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) sector or air mobility in Indonesia by conducting Proof of Concept (PoC). This is intended for land-air transportation at Aji Pangeran Tumenggung Pranoto Airport, Samarinda, East Kalimantan.

This manufacturer from South Korea has successfully demonstrated and highlighted the potential of this vehicle in realizing a new future of mobility, especially for the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan.

AAM Business Development Officer HMG AAM Division Cheolung Kim, said the development of this vehicle is more than just an aircraft innovation and requires thorough cooperation in the aviation industry.

"We will also maintain a strategic partnership with the Indonesian government and institutions to lead the future AAM ecosystem," Kim said in his statement, Tuesday, July 30.

Through this PoC, the company introduced a comprehensive mobility solution that integrates the Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) platform specifically designed for the Indonesian market. The group also showcases an integrated ordering and payment experience for ground-air mobility services, including AAM, using Shuckle, a mobility service platform that is responsive to demand.

HMG also managed to complete its inaugural overseas flight from the Optionally Piloted Personal Air Vehicle (OPPAV), an AAM technology demonstrator developed with the Korea Aerospace Research Institute.

One of the largest global automotive companies is also developing the aircraft's electric powertrain, utilizing the electrification expertise that has been proven in the automotive sector. Affirming its commitment to safety, the company uses the Distributed Electric Propulsion technology, which independently drives multiple motors and batteries.

Indonesia, the country with the fourth largest population in the world and key players in Southeast Asia (ASEAN), is the largest aviation market in the region with more than 18,000 islands. In addition, Indonesia has great potential for the AAM application in the future.
