Hyundai Achieves Sales Of Electric Car Gemilang In The US, Ioniq 5 Sets A Record

JAKARTA - When other electric car manufacturers were worried about stagnant sales due to declining demand, Hyundai actually started in 2024 brilliantly.

Sales of their electric cars in the United States (US) increased rapidly in the first five months of this year, sales were 66 percent higher than the same period last year.

In May alone, reported by InsideEvs, June 3, Hyundai managed to sell 5,548 units of electric cars based on the E-GMP platform in the United States, up 62 percent compared to the previous year. Hyundai's E-GMP electric car now accounts for 7.1 percent of total sales, up from 4.9 percent from May, 2023.

May is also a gift for Ioniq 5, which won a record high monthly sales of 4,449 units (up 82 percent compared to last year) and 1,099 Hyundai Ioniq 6 units (up 13 percent). Interestingly, Hyundai Ioniq 5 was able to set this new record two years after its launch, and this achievement was achieved without full support from federal tax credit worth 7,500 for electric car purchases.

Hyundai also reports that about 60 to 70 percent of consumers choose to rent Ioniq 5, which allows them to continue to take full advantage of the tax credit.

Previous best monthly sales for Ioniq 5 were achieved in July 2023, with sales of 4,135 units.

"Our environmentally friendly vehicles achieved great success with a total increase of 50 percent compared to last year," said Hyundai Motor America CEO Randy Parker.

He added, both electric and hybrid cars continue to gain popularity. Hyundai Santa Fe HEV 2024, Hyundai's latest HEV model also experienced an increase in sales by 116 percent compared to last year.
