JAKARTA - Unpleasant news comes from VinFast. This automotive manufacturer from Vietnam was sued by a real estate services company SPG Center in court in California, United States (US) because it had not paid rent at one of its stores.
Reporting from Carscoops, Tuesday, May 28, the company confirmed that VinFast stopped paying rent for premises in a Palo Alto shopping center in May 2023. Thus, they have been in debt for a year totaling 356,000 US dollars (IDR 5.7 billion).
The real estate company said it sent a notice to the Vietnamese automaker to pay or quit on April 26 but accused the company of not responding by the May 1 deadline.
However, VinFast has responded by saying that they have made monthly rental payments.
“We have made monthly rental payments up to and including March 2024. We have suspended rental payments since April 2024 due to ongoing negotiations with the landlord to change the rental agreement,” VinFast said in a statement.

This is the umpteenth problem experienced by VinFast during 2024. Previously, this manufacturer based in Hanoi, Vietnam was involved in a safety scandal that killed a family of four.
In April, Tarun and Rincy George and their two children were killed when their VF 8 crashed into an oak tree and caught fire in Pleasanton, California. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) received a complaint from the owner of the VF 8 who loaned it to George, who revealed that he had previously experienced steering problems with the SUV and was concerned these problems may have been the cause of the crash.
