JAKARTA - Polestar electric car manufacturer, the Sino-Swedia brand shared by Volvo Cars and its parent company Geely has just showcased their latest technology that allows super fast charging. The technology is named Extreme Fast Charging (XFC), capable of charging up to 370kW on the Polestar 5 car prototype.

Citing the company's release, April 29, the technology developed with the battery company Storedot uses silicon-dominated cells. These cells allow charging at high speed without damaging the battery.

Polestar claims XFC technology offers better charging speed consistency. Testing results show charging speeds are stable at 310kW with peaks reaching 370kW - far exceeding any public charger capability in the UK today.

According to Polestar, this technology is equivalent to adding a 320 kilometer cruise power on a 77kWh battery in just 10 minutes. In the future, this technology will also be compatible with a larger capacity battery, namely 100kWh.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said this technology could overcome one of the biggest weaknesses of electric cars in the eyes of the public, namely the length of charging time compared to gasoline or diesel cars.

"Time is the greatest luxury in life. As a high-power electric car manufacturer, we need to take the next step to overcome one of the biggest obstacles to electric car ownership: charging anxiety," said Ingenlath.
