PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) is again holding a recall involving a large SUV model, Land Cruiser 300 produced in July 2021 January 2024 and Lexus LX600 assembled in January 2022 January 2024.

The manufacturer started the recall program on these two models because the technicians will check and reprogram the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) which functions to control the automatic transmission performance of ten accelerations.

"We found a potential problem in the 10-speed automatic transmission of the two Premium Luxury SUVs, so repairs are mandatory to prevent safety constraints," said Vice President Director of PT TAM Henry Tanoto in a statement received by the media, Friday, March 22.

It is known that there is a possible problem with the coupling disk in the transmission of the vehicle concerned. The company said that when the transmission lever was shifted to a neutral position and the pressure was removed from the piston coupling, the disk could not immediately be removed from the plate, allowing some of the engine power to be switched to wheels.

If this happens on a flat road or when the driver doesn't use the parking brakes, these two SUVs can run unexpectedly at a low speed of 6 km/hour and potentially threaten the safety of the car owner.

Toyota and Lexus' official workshops will conduct ECU inspections and re-programs on Land Cruiser 300 and LX600 units in an effort to address the issue.

Vehicle owners are advised to do booking service first. Then, these two cars were taken to the workshop and the technicians will carry out an inspection and if necessary re-plant it with an estimated estimate of about 30 minutes. The entire inspection program is free of charge.

"We ask customers to check the car whether it is on the recall list and visit the official Toyota or Lexus workshop to reprogram the transmission ECU without any fees," concluded Tanoto.

This recall case is the same as what happened in the US at the end of February involving 280,663 units of Toyota pickup trucks and SUVs, consisting of Tundra and Tundra Hybrid. In addition, Lexus cars such as LX600 were also involved in this recall.
