JAKARTA - Not Tesla, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and other major brands but the premium automotive brand Lexus of Toyota was recently named one of the brands that offers a good driver monitoring assistance system by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) on one of its models, LS.

The non-profit in the US assessed that the driver monitoring assistance technology offered at Lexus LS is the only of 14 systems that have the title of acceptable or the highest in the assessment.

The manufacturer with the 'L' logo managed to outperform its competitors, such as Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo, who got a 'poor' score or the lowest in the assessment, the IIHS said.

David Harkey, as President of IIHS, said that his party's assessment had paid attention to a number of procedures, including the way the driving system monitors driver condition.

"Some drivers may feel that the semi-autonomous system makes long-distance travel easier, but there is little evidence that the system makes driving safer," Harkey said as quoted by Automotive News, Thursday, March 14.

IIHS praised the system on Lexus cars, namely the "Lexus Teammate", as a reminder and offering a number of safety features. Then, the Institute gave a marginal' assessment of the Super Cruise system developed by General Motors (GM) and Nissan's ProPilot Assist.

The system that received a "bad" assessment was Tesla with Autopilot and Full Self-Driving Beta. And it is known, last December, this US manufacturer made a recall to update this component's software.

However, it was reported that the software update was not safe enough to push the IIHS to review the recall.

Other systems that have received a "bad" assessment include the Active Driving Assistant Pro of BMW, Ford's BlueCruise, and Volvo's Pilot Assist.

Lexus LS 2023 Evidence Of Luxury Sejati From Toyota

The luxury sedan Lexus LS 2023 is a serious competitor to BMW Series 7 and Audi A8. Supported by 416 dk-powered twin-turbo machines and 600 Nm torque, LS offers an advantage in performance. However, it's not just a matter of speed; LS also offers scintillation and comfort that characterizes Lexus. At a more affordable price than Mercedes-Benz S-Class and comprehensive technology, LS provides a hard value added.

What's Teammate?

Teammate is advanced driver assistance technology equivalent to SAE Level 2. This technology is developed based on Toyota's "Mobility Teammate" concept and offers two main functions: Advanced Drive and Advanced Park.

This technology was first available on certain Lexus LS 500h AWD cars in 2022.
