Tesla Ready To Produce Cheap Electric Cars, Starting Production In 2025

JAKARTA - Tesla News is preparing to develop "Model 2", smaller electric cars at affordable prices are getting stronger.

This model 2 is likely to be one of the cheapest electric cars in circulation, even predicted to cost below IDR 460 million. If this is realized, it could break the record sale of an electric car given Tesla's big name.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed it to Reuters on January 25 by announcing plans for production of the Model 2 to begin in the second half of 2025. The car is planned to be produced at new plants in Mexico and the United States.

Model 2 is part of two new electric vehicles that Tesla is currently developing. Other vehicles are believed to be autonomous taxis or the latest technology-based robotaxi.

Musk also has ambitions for these two models to sell up to five million units per year after production runs smoothly.

The Tesla team is said to be trying hard to cut the cost of making Model 2 with a target of lowering half of the cost of the main components. They will also use the latest battery and drivetrain technology to ensure a fairly far range at a more affordable price.

Model 2 is expected to have a hatback design similar to the Model 3 and Model Y but with a more compact size.

Meanwhile, reported by Carmagazine, January 26, Lars Moravy, Vice President of Tesla Vehicle Engineering, explained that the innovation of the production process for Model 2 with this new system allows the construction of several parts of the car simultaneously, so that it is faster and more efficient. As a result, production costs can be reduced by 50 percent.

The presence of the Model 2 certainly adds to the heat of the world's electric car market competition, especially in the cheap electric car segment. Tesla also revealed that it will design its own 100 percent controller components on next-generation platforms, including cheaper, more efficient powertrains, and reduce dependence on rare materials.
