One Toyota Model Affected By Daihatsu Collision Scandal Must Be Withdrawn In Japan

JAKARTA - The drama about the hit-and-run scandal from Daihatsu is not over yet. This time, the Japanese manufacturer informed the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation, and Tourism of Japan (MLIT) regarding the withdrawal of one affected model, namely Pixis Joy, which was launched as a Toyota product.

Previously, the company had reported to MLIT that there was a possibility of non-compliance with safety standards. From the results of the investigation, Daihatsu decided on the need for a recall and had informed the local government.

It is known that the cause of the recall on this model is because the power door lock on the driver's side door can be activated when a collision occurs. This is because verification of the door lock operation is inadequate in case of side collisions.

"Because of this, all doors may be locked in the event of a collision, so it takes extra time to save passengers," Toyota wrote on its official website, Thursday, January 24.

It should be noted that the total affected vehicles were 34,594 units consisting of the production car from August 31, 2016 to June 9, 2023.

To solve this problem, the driver's sidedoor key for all affected vehicles will be replaced with corrective spare parts and repaired immediately.

Unfortunately, due to the time-consuming supply of repair parts, Toyota appealed to vehicle owners to prevent the door from being locked at the time of the collision.

This action will make the key unable to be used to operate the door lock and limit it only to remote control operation. Customers will then be notified once repair parts have been prepared for replacement.

Toyota Pixis Joy or Daihatsu Cast is one of the many models affected by the recent hit-test manipulation case in the world automotive industry. Other affected models consist of Daihatsu Move/Subaru Stella and Daihatsu Gran Max/Toyota Ace/Mazda Bongo.

In an investigative report released at the end of 2023, 174 new cases were found in 25 testing items, apart from the manipulation of the pole side hit test in May. The report states that there are irregularities in 64 models and 3 machines, including models that are under development and production is stopped.
