Following CX-8, Mazda 6 Becomes The Next Model To Be Injected Dead In Japan

Shocking news coming from Mazda Motor, a factory based in Hiroshima, Japan, will stop the production of Mazda 6 assembled in Hofu, Japan.

Based on a report from The Chugoku Shimbun quoted by Drive, Thursday, January 18, the manufacturer plans to end Mazda 6 production in the spring of this year, between March and May.

According to sources, sales of this model will also end in Japan in the same period. Mazda 6 will reportedly only be produced and sold for overseas markets.

Meanwhile, Mazda Australia, who is one of the owners of this vehicle, has yet to make official comments, and they state that future product plans will be announced in the next few days.

However, it is not clear whether Mazda plans to present the next generation of this model. If so, the car is likely to use the same architecture as CX-60 and CX-90, equipped with a 6-cylinder engine.

Mazda Australia itself reported sales of 1,528 Mazda units 6 years ago, a slight increase from 1,511 units in 2022, but down from 3,647 units in 2017, 6,558 units in 2012, and around 12,700 cars in 2003, which was the first year of sales.

In Indonesia, Mazda 6 recorded sales of 122 units, consisting of two variants, namely Elite Sedan with 62 sales, and Elite Estate with 60 units, according to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo).

Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI), which is the sole agent holding the Mazda car brand (ATPM) in Indonesia, sells Mazda 6 at a price starting from IDR 695.5 million for the standard Sedan and Estate versions, and IDR 706.6 million for the 20th Anniversary edition.

Previously, at the end of December 2023, Mazda had stopped production of CX-8 to provide space for CX-80s equipped with hybrid technology.
