These Three Luxury SUVs Have Bad Results For Safety Tests For Passengers, Here's The Reason

JAKARTA - The independent Insurance Institute for Highway Driving (IIHS) has just issued hit test results on luxury SUVs issued in 2023 and 2024 in medium size which are claimed to offer good protection for passengers in rear seats, namely Lincoln Aviator 2024, Mercedes GLE-Class 2024, Volvo XC60 2023, Audi Q5 2023, Cadillac XT6 2023, Acura MDX 2023, BMW X3 2023, and Lexus RX 2023.

In addition to the passengers of the front seat, IIHS also wants to pay attention to the safety of the rear passengers. They considered that the focus of safety on the rear seat was still considered one-sided or left behind.

The institute tested the eight SUVs in the premium segment with five of them winning the title 'Acceptable' or 'Good', which is the best assessment of the test.

"This is encouraging because more than half of the mid-size luxury SUVs in 2024 that we tested performed well in the updated medium overlap front impact test," said President IIHS David Harkey, quoted from carscoops, Wednesday, December 20.

Models such as Acura MDX and BMW X3 achieved an Acceptable' assessment in the test. IIHS assessed that injury measurements on both were within acceptable limits, although passenger models on the MDX model would slip under the lap belt, while the X3 passenger position approached the front seat.

Then, the models that won the 'Good' assessment were Volvo XC60, Mercedes GLE, and Lincoln Aviator. Volvo again proved its vehicle, such as XC60, had above average toughness by gaining better value than others.

Then, Mercedes GLE-Class has a high risk of developing a neck injury after testing. Meanwhile, the doll on Lincoln Aviator is in a position close to the front seat.

The other three cars, such as Audi Q5, Lexus RX, and Cadillac XT6, got bad results. For Q5 and RX it barely gets an Marginal' assessment, where passengers can fall under the lap belt, thereby increasing the risk of head and neck injuries.
