Own Local Content 80 Percent, Toyota Indonesia Exports Yaris Cross To Many Countries

PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) held the inauguration of the "Prime Production and Export" for the Toyota SUV model, Yaris Cross. This event took place at the TMMIN Karawang 1 and 2 factories, West Karawang, West Java.

This inaugural shipment includes all Yaris Cross variants, both gasoline-engined and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). PT TMMIN stated that the construction of the Yaris Cross involved an investment of IDR 2.5 trillion.

Warih Andang Tjahjono, President Director of PT TMMIN, stated that the presence of Yaris Cross supports the government's program in achieving the target of emission-free countries by offering the HEV variant. He also revealed that Yaris Cross, produced in Indonesia, uses 80 percent of local components for both gasoline and hybrid models.

"Yes, the Indonesian-made Cross with a local content of 80% of both gasoline and HEV is also aimed at export markets to countries in Latin America and Asia, so we hope to also contribute economically to the Indonesian nation," said Tjahjono in an official statement published by Toyota Indonesia, Tuesday, June 13.

With the production of Yaris Cross, Indonesia has further confirmed its position as one of the countries that produces and exports Toyota vehicles in the Asia Pacific region, including for electric vehicles. Yaris Cross is the second local production electrification model, after Kijang Innova Zenix, which is also aimed at domestic and export consumers.

In addition, the Yaris Cross electric battery is also assembled locally by Toyota Indonesia at the Karawang 2 factory while the engine is produced at the Karawang 3 factory.

As an export base, Toyota Indonesia has a target to export more than 22.000 units to countries in Latin America and Asia this year. It is hoped that the export figure will continue to increase from year to year, reaching 40,000 units by 2025.

In addition to increasing export volume, Toyota Indonesia also plans to expand to various countries to export local products, especially on the growing African continent.
