Starting 2050 Gasoline And Diesel Engine Cars Will Not Be Sold In Indonesia

JAKARTA - In order to achieve the net zero emission (NZE) target in 2060, the Chief of Presidential Staff of the Republic of Indonesia as well as the Chair of the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo), Moeldoko, emphasized that Indonesia will not sell fuel-engine cars such as gasoline and diesel in 2050.

In line with this program from the government, it is hoped that in the 2060 period it can reach 87 percent in terms of national energy mixtures.

"Conventional cars will no longer exist in 2050," said Moeldoko in a discussion on the Ecosystem Towards Clean Energy broadcast on the official YouTube channel of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Monday, June 5.

In the discussion forum, it was explained that later the Steam Power Plant (PLTU) would be suspended simultaneously starting in 2031. This was followed by the interconnection of the inter-island electricity network starting in 2035.

Furthermore, in 2040, the government will set a national energy mix target from New Renewable Energy (EBT) with an achievement of 71 percent. This coincided with the discontinued sales of conventional machines.

Ten years later, it is hoped that the energy mix will be able to reach 87 percent by stopping new conventional cars. With this, electric-based vehicles will be presented with battery and hybrid power.

If the plan can run well, then the zero emission target can be achieved by 2060, which is expected to be dominated by Solar Power Plants (PLTS) and Hydroelectric Power Plants (PLTA).

In more detail, NZE 2060 will be accompanied by gas distribution through a gas network of 123 million household connections and electric stoves of 52 million households.

The government is also working to accelerate the ecosystem in the use of electric vehicles. One of them is in the G20 Summit in Bali and the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo some time ago, where the government is working with various manufacturers in providing electric vehicle transportation facilities for delegates to meet mobility needs during the event.
