JAKARTA - The naturalized player of the Indonesian national team, Jordi Amat, turned out to have royal blood from the Siau Kingdom, North Sulawesi.
Silsilah that's what made Jordi Amat determined to release Spanish citizenship and change as an Indonesian citizen (WNI).
The story of this trip was shared by Jordi Amat during an interview with Dutch media, Spanyphandag.
Initially, he discussed that the decision to choose to undergo naturalization was not only due to an invitation from the former national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, but also because of his family tree from Sulawesi.
Although he had defended the Spanish national team at various age levels ranging from U-17 to U-21, it turned out that Jordi Amat explained that his grandmother often told stories about his family's lineage from Indonesia.
He is even referred to as the heir to the title of prince or crown prince of the Kingdom of Siau, North Sulawesi.

"My grandmother often told me when I was a child that I was the heir to a royal title in an area in Indonesia."
"I didn't believe him. At first, I thought it was just a story for a child. However, he always said that I would see what would happen if I traveled with him to his home country when I was an adult," said Jordi Amat.
Jordi, who initially thought the story was just a fairy tale from his grandmother, finally found out the fact that his great-father had been the King of Siau. From that lineage, Jordi also has a blood relationship with the royal family.
Therefore, Jordi Amat felt the need to take a role to help his ancestral land.
"I want to take care of the Siau community. It would be nice to do something with football, maybe I will build a field for the kids."
"I also want to visit schools. If they don't have facilities, maybe we can help," said the centre-back.
"This title is certainly different from what we know in Europe, like the kings of Spain. It will not change my life significantly," he said.
Set in the family tree, Jordi Amat finally chose to undergo the naturalization process of becoming an Indonesian citizen (WNI). The process is complete in November 2022.
Together with Sandy Walsh, he became one of the first diaspora to be naturalized to strengthen the Indonesian national team.
Jordi's decision to join the Garuda Squad was not only a matter of opportunity to play, but also an emotional push from his ancestral roots.
"I want to respect my grandmother's story and show my pride in Indonesia's blood flowing within me," he said.
Jordi Amat played 83 matches in La Liga during the 2012/2013 and 2017/2020 seasons. The player whose full name is Jordi Amat Maas graduated in a review at several top European clubs.
