JAKARTA - Cambodia has started the inoculation of five-year-old children across the country with China's Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine. The injections began Monday, November 1, the local Health Ministry said.

"Children as young as five in all 25 cities and provinces will receive two doses of Sinovac vaccine from November 1, 2021, onwards and the interval between the first and second doses is 28 days," Foreign Minister Or Vandine was quoted as saying by Channel News Asia.

When bringing their children for injections, parents or legal guardians must bring a birth certificate, family registry, or passport, he said.

The latest move comes after the Southeast Asian nation administered at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to 13.7 million people aged six and over, or 85.6 percent of its 16 million population, the ministry said.

Of them, 13.05 million, or 81.6 percent, had been fully vaccinated with both required injections, and 1.83 million, or 11.4 percent, had taken a third dose or booster dose, he added.

Most of the Covid-19 vaccines used in the kingdom's vaccination campaign are China's Sinovac and Sinopharm.

As of Sunday, Cambodia had recorded a cumulative total of 118,321 Covid-19 cases and 2,773 deaths, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
