Mahfud MD: Our Law Practices Are Sometimes Corrupt, Many Laws Are Made Wrong

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said that legal practices in Indonesia are sometimes carried out in a corrupt manner so that the ideals of national laws that contain norms and ideals are often not achieved.

This was emphasized by Mahfud MD when he was the Keynote Speaker at the National Seminar on the theme of Law in National Development at Brawijaya University, Thursday, October 28.

"Our problem is our legal practice, in carrying out the ideals of the law, namely our legal practice is sometimes corrupt. Many laws are made wrongly, corrupt, that's why I canceled a lot of laws in the past and I was a member of the House of Representatives (DPR)," Mahfud said, quoted from a written statement.

He then explained that legal ideals are ideas or ideas about the law that are extracted from legal awareness and national culture that are poured into the legal system and must be practiced in law.

"Our legal ideal is the ideal of Pancasila law, which is a divine law, meaning that our law is not secular, the responsibility is not only between humans but also a responsibility to God," said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).

Seeing this condition, Mahfud then asked the academics not only to rewrite the portrait of the ideal legal ideal, but how to build a road map for good law.

"What is the road map for? To improve the way we carry out the law, it's easy for you to say, "Oh, the DPR is wrong, but how can they not be wrong? What do you think the road map is," he said firmly.

Mahfud then alludes to the law is to make and enforcing the law. "So if the legal ideals are made in the building of thought, deductively it is legal and cultural awareness as outlined in the national legal system," he said.

"While inductively is the development of society which is poured into the legal system in an eclectic manner, namely collecting good values from the plurality of society," concluded Mahfud.
