BANDUNG - The West Java High Prosecutor's Office has begun investigating the alleged corruption case of 5,000 tons of sugar in a subsidiary of the State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI), PT PG Rajawali Cirebon.

Head of West Java Attorney General's Office, Dodi Gazali, said that from the alleged sugar misappropriation, the state has the potential to suffer a financial loss of IDR 50 billion.

"We have raised the status of the investigation to the investigation level regarding the alleged corruption in the issuance of a sugar delivery order (DO) between PT PG Rajawali II and PT Mentari Agung Jaya Usaha in 2020", said Dodi in Bandung, West Java, Antara, Friday, October 22.

According to him, the increase in the status of the investigation was based on the Investigation Order of the Head of the West Java High Prosecutor's Office Number: Print1084/M.2.1/Fd.1/10/2021 dated October 21, 2021.

Construction of the case began around November to December 2020, there were allegations of irregularities in the issuance of DO sugar from PT PG Rajawali II to PT Mentari Agung.

At that time, it was suspected that PT Mentari Agung had issued three blank checks as payment for sugar. The check was given without checking by PT PG Rajawali II

Furthermore, PT PG Rajawali II is suspected of issuing a DO for sugar which resulted in the release of 5,000 tons of sugar without payment, causing state losses of IDR 50 billion.

"The sugar DO issuance was carried out without regard to the principles of 'good corporate governance' or ignoring other SOP provisions", said Dodi.

According to him, in the investigation process, the West Java Prosecutor's Office has requested information from 20 people from related parties, including experts.

But so far, said Dodi, no one has been named as a suspect for the sugar corruption. He said an investigation was underway to find the suspect.

"This series of investigations has a lot of authority, we can use force, we can search and confiscate", said Dodi.
