Makassar Mayor Encourages Schools to Hold Learning with the Concept of Sightseeing

MAKASSAR - Makassar Mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto (Danny Pomanto) encourages junior high schools (SMP) to hold out-of-school learning programs using the concept of outings (outing classes) in order to increase students' insight apart from subjects.

"The program will continue to run. The face-to-face learning simulation with concepts outside the classroom that was held last weekend by SMPN 6 Makassar in the Mangrove Tourism area, Lantebung, was successful and was liked by students," said Danny Pomanto in Makassar, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 19.

He said hundreds of students of SMPN 6 Makassar who took part in learning outside the school got new experiences and they were happy to be able to learn directly in the mangrove area.

Danny Pomanto stated that the important point to be conveyed from the concept of learning while sightseeing is so that students can get to know the surrounding environment better and contribute to environmental conservation.

He explained that learning outside the classroom integrates material or concepts obtained in school with conditions in the surrounding environment.

"That's a very good independent learning method," he said.

In addition, the program aims to refresh students' five senses. The impact of online learning so far has made students' minds shackled.

"It's very good, they need experience, which so far they don't have, just theory while learning online," he said.

The Director of the Forum for the Environment (Walhi) of South Sulawesi, Muh Al Amin, advised the younger generation, especially students, to be a part and actor in preserving life in the future.

"This is a form of collaboration between the Makassar City Government and the Lantebung community, students and educators to teach and show how to preserve the environment in the city of Makassar so that it remains sustainable and maintained," he said.
